  Scott and Amber Gates are the parents of Brandon (7), Melanie (5), and Ethan (3). They live in a trailer they purchased 7 years ago. Melanie was born in April of 2003 with a rare lung disease 1 with multiple organ complications and most recently has been diagnosed with Mitochondrial Complex I, III and IV deficiency. This disease is a progressive, degenerative neuromuscular disease with no known cure and little knowledge of its progression or symptoms.   |

Melanie has had over
40hospitalizations
&nearly that many surgical procedures. She deals with
severe pain in the form
pain called visceral hyperalgesia. Melanie
of migraines, neuropathy, and a type of gut has been and remains on oxygen support 24 hours a day. Her life depends on the ability of machines & medicines to sustain it. She receives medications every 20 minutes throughout the entire day and into the night. She is unable to regulate her body temperature due to autonomic dysfunction, so she is very rarely able to be outside. She has an ileostomy (intestines don’t work), a GJ Tube which serves the J port (to receive medications) and G port (for stomach drainage), a Mitrofanoff (to catheterize bladder for urination), and an IV Port in her chest (for IV nutrition called TPN, IV meds and fluids, and blood transfusions, etc.). Melanie’s disease progressed to the point where she has lost the ability to tolerate anything by mouth in Dec 2006 and since August 2007 cannot even tolerate direct feeds to her stomach. Thus, she depends on 100% IV nutrition to sustain life. This has made things extremely difficult as she went 3 years with eating and n ow must go without. Imagine watching your family eat and you must go without knowing how it smells and tastes but telling your little 5 year old that she can’t eat with the rest of the family. Yet the house is so small, she has nowhere toretreat to during these times. Extreme care must be given to her fluid levels of what goes in and how much isgoing out- every ML, ounce and gram is measured and tracked. Extreme care must be given to the air she breathes as her lungs are diseased and changes in humidity levels will greatly affect her. This is only a fraction of the medical condition of little Melanie.   |

remains positive
through it all and is a testament to everyone who meets her of her strong will, faith in God, and belief that one day she will be all better. Amber is an amazing force in her home and to those she meets along the way. She takes care of Melanie 24/7 with the assistance of a home day nurse, works at night for Mayo Clinic as a medical transcriptionist, is a full time mom to her 2 boys, and maintains a home for her husband and family. Amber suffers from a damaged tendon in her wrist, recently underwent surgery and now may have permanent nerve damage. She is in constant pain yet must still take care of Melanie and do her medical cares and still care of her family. She will need to go back to work to support her amily and for insurance needs yet typing Medical transcription is impossible right now. The family’s financial condition is a whole story as well, making due with what they have with out of pocket medical bills well over $10,000 each year. Due to the high medical bills and the limited income, they are not in a position to make significant monthly payments to own a home suitable to their needs. Scott works days at IBM in manufacturing. Scott and Amber work opposite shifts to manage Melanie’s cares. Ethan also suffers from Asthma, severe acid reflux, and recurrent croup/upper airway narrowing. This restricts his activity, severely complicates a simple cold and must also take various medications to keep it under control. Care must be given to provide Ethan an environment as free as possible of the many allergens that affect his breathing.   |

| The Gates' home is
bursting at the seams with medical equipment, oxygen tanks, and supplies stacked to the ceiling. Amber sleeps on the couch in the living room to keep Melanie’s heart monitor in view through the night. Scott sleeps on the floor as there is no space for a bed for them to sleep on. Ethan also sleeps on the floor as there is not roomfor a 2nd bed in the boys room either. Melanie has just enough space in her room to squeeze around each side of her bed and a table at the end of the room to record her weights and stats throughout the day. Her room also doubles as the nurses station and supply closet. Her room is consumed with bookcases filled with medical equipment from floor to ceiling and a few small shelves reserved for books and toys. The kitchen has a fold up table and chairs and also contains the additional chest freezer used to hold food that is brought to them 3 times a week. Her IV nutrition is kept in the refrigerator and consumes most of its space. The kitchen and most of the home is overflowing with the syringes, cups, sterile medical equipment and medicines needed to keep Melanie alive. Melanie must remain in a climate controlled environment to sustain life. In the past year, the trailer park has had unpredictable outages in electricity. They have no safe climate controlled shelter to retreat to during severe weather. There are very few days out of the year where she is able to be outside. If the humidity levels would be tolerable, there may also be wind or rain or direct sun making it difficult to transport her from home to vehicle without the convenience and need of an attached garage- not to mention the storage capacity  .
The Gates Family is in need of a house with space for medical equipment, a room designated to a sterile environment for nursing care and an additional bedroom or lounge area for a night care person to stay; space for mom and dad to share a bed and some quiet time, room for the kids to run when 9+ months of the year they must remain indoors, space where the boys can be boys and not have to worry about waking up Melanie when she goes to bed at 6 pm every night.  .They also need a basement to provide them with weather protection in an air-controlled environment and a fenced backyard for the boys to safely play when mom and Melanie must remain indoors. |

THE LATEST: APRIL 30th, 08 Finally got my Sebring out of the shop. Two & a half months I've owned it and only been able to drive it a couple of weeks. Top considered in Excellent condition had to be worked on because of High Wind Noise, sewing, weather stripping loose, Top had too be realigned. Total cost: $225. Blower motor in side of dash bad. Had to tear apart dash. Front end alignment Total labor and parts: $525. I bought this item on eBay and thought you might be interested in how the sale went. click on to see more info Chrysler : Sebring price $5,100.00 Feb-16-08 17:50:47 PST or click here This is the new car I bought. everything was supposed to be in excelllent condition. After 1200 miles the engine blew. cost to replace $2650 for engine, $1500 to install, 4 days stay at motel while waiting to find out what was wrong with engine, $240+, 2 trips one to MN to get title card and 08 plates. one back to TX to arrange payment and get engine replaced, $300 + $400 air fare. mechanic not able to finish car on time with his other work so cost for 1 1/2 weeks at motel, $632. Excellent tires had to be replaced after 3000 miles because they had less tread that law allows, cost $515. Front end alignment after new tires, cost $79. When I picked up car it was not winterized, so that cost was $59. For a total of $6,375. So after license plates, sales tax & transfer fees. I have over $12,000 into this car. Not to mention the convertible top that was supposed to be excellent like new condition and the amount of cost to put the top in said condition I have not recieved as of now. ebay & paypal denied any resonsponsbility for misleading if not completely fraudulent misrepresentation of info in the ebay ad. Buy another car on ebay. ebay offers this advise Read the vehicle description -- carefully!
